The Waihi Operation, located on New Zealand’s North Island, is an underground gold mining site with a newly approved expansion project ensuring long-term operational continuity and employment for about 400 staff and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to all site safety protocols and operational guidelines.
- Collect and photograph core samples at designated surface and underground logging facilities.
- Support geologists with mapping underground workings and executing ore control tasks.
- Organize, gather, and transport samples efficiently to the analytical lab.
- Oversee the storage and proper handling of samples and maintain photographic records of underground development, including generating 3D scans of mine passages.
- Monitor and replenish consumables used in ore control operations.
- Maintain vehicles and equipment associated with geological and underground activities.
- Collaborate with Geotechnical teams on pull testing, MBPX, and seismic monitoring duties.
- Assist the Survey department in operating CALS equipment and support Engineering teams with various on-site underground tasks.
Qualifications and Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Geology is preferred but not a mandatory requirement.
- Possession of a valid, current driver’s license with manual vehicle operation proficiency is essential.
- Previous mining operations experience is preferable.
- A basic understanding of geological processes is advantageous.
- Physical fitness adequate to meet the demands of underground mining work is necessary.
- Basic competency with Microsoft Office applications is required.
