Role Overview
The Telecom Technician will support telecom installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting work at oil & gas facilities. This position involves ensuring that communication and security systems remain reliable, compliant, and ready for project and shutdown activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, service, and diagnose telecom systems used in oil and gas sites.
- Carry out planned and breakdown maintenance on communication equipment.
- Install and terminate both fiber optic and copper cabling.
- Test and maintain CCTV, PAGA, telephone, radio communication, LAN/WAN, access control, and structured cabling systems.
- Perform loop checks, signal verification, and commissioning tasks.
- Interpret telecom drawings, schematics, and layout documents accurately.
- Make sure all systems meet project requirements and safety rules.
- Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and other teams during shutdowns and project execution.
- Identify faults in communication systems and complete repairs with minimal interruption.
- Keep maintenance logs and inspection records up to date.
- Assist with startup and commissioning activities during project handover.
- Adhere to HSE requirements and permit-to-work procedures at the worksite.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should hold a Diploma, ITI, or Technical Certification in Electronics, Telecommunications, Electrical & Electronics, Instrumentation, or a related technical trade. The role calls for 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in oil & gas, refinery, petrochemical, or industrial projects, including onshore oil & gas work. Experience with industrial telecom systems and hazardous-area environments is preferred.
