Role Opportunity
The Student Support Adviser role is a 5-month fixed-term position commencing in October 2026 within the Summer Start programme. This six-week initiative aids eligible school-leavers in earning credits, building confidence, and transitioning smoothly into tertiary education.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive support and guidance to students throughout their Summer Start experience, focusing on well-being and academic pastoral care.
- Identify students facing academic or personal challenges and connect them with designated support services.
- Assist recruitment, applications, enrolment, and conversion processes to ensure students matriculate successfully into the first semester.
- Track and report on student engagement, achievements, and participation, maintaining precise documentation.
- Collaborate with academic staff and support teams to provide a seamless, student-centered support network.
- Organize and contribute to programme events and community-building activities that promote belonging and student success.
- Participate in the ongoing development and enhancement of the Summer Start programme.
Candidate Profile
- Experience engaging with students or working within tertiary education, customer service, or advisory roles.
- Strong interpersonal skills for establishing trust with students and colleagues.
- Ability to support individuals through difficulties and refer them to necessary resources.
- Effective communication skills adaptable to various groups.
- Excellent organizational skills with the capability to manage several priorities efficiently.
- Awareness of equity, inclusion, and the specific experiences of Māori and Pacific students in New Zealand.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using databases or student management systems.
- Team-oriented approach fostering a supportive environment.
Preferred experience includes student pastoral care, mentoring, event coordination, or working with culturally diverse tertiary communities.
Employment Details
- Position: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Duration: 5 months fixed-term starting October 2026.
- Salary Range: $68,000 to $79,000 per annum (pro rata for contract length).
- Annual leave entitlement of five weeks.
