About Legalverse and the Role

Legalverse is a small but impactful company where you engage closely with end users, delivering products whose results you directly influence. You'll see your work deployed in production, receive customer feedback, and witness the company’s revenue evolve because of your contribution. The role involves working in diverse programming languages and technologies, becoming a key guardian of the codebase, and abiding by best practices to enhance code quality continually.

Interaction occurs through remote pair programming and occasional in-person sessions at our headquarters in Anchorage, Alaska. Ownership of your code and the ability to agree on a mutual direction amidst disagreements are essential.

Candidate Profile

Experience building numerous projects, including frameworks like Ruby on Rails or Django, as well as starting from scratch. Early projects like simple PHP CMS are also welcomed as background.
Derives satisfaction from observing the customer usage of one’s work.
Highly proficient in at least one programming language but enjoys experimenting with various languages and technologies.
Preferably holds a degree in computer science or electrical engineering, preferably with a security emphasis due to the sensitive nature of client data.

Work Schedule and Location

This is approximately a 30-hour per week position. Candidates should be available in the GMT-9 time zone between 9am and 11pm. Work can be done remotely or on-site.

Qualifications

Self-driven and meticulous in approach.
Prior development experience through academic courses or internships.
Strong knowledge of Ruby, JavaScript, or Golang.
Fast learner capable of quickly assimilating new software and technologies.
Ability to follow guidelines and collaborate effectively within teams.
Basic understanding of databases, networking, systems, services, and operating systems fundamentals.

Technical Stack

Ruby on Rails (with Postgres, Redis, Sidekiq), Golang, JavaScript, Docker, Terraform, GitHub Actions, AWS services including S3, API Gateway, Route 53, ECS, EC2, DynamoDB, Lambda.

Additional Information

This is a modestly funded startup; the candidate will be the first paid employee. Compensation depends on education and experience. The founder currently draws no salary. Growth is tied to company success with possibilities for profit sharing and equity. Initial work will include a trial period before confirmation into a salaried full-time position.
