Role overview
This is a permanent, full-time Social Worker position based in Te Awamutu, Waikato. The starting pay range is NZD 81,206 to NZD 97,557 per year, with pay progression available based on length of service and experience. The role is with Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children and focuses on supporting the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi, helping them feel safe, heard, and connected with caring whānau and community.
About the role
You will be part of a team working from the Te Awamutu site and will spend your day engaging with children, young people, their families and whānau. The work involves hearing directly from them, assessing needs, building intensive intervention plans, taking part in hui-ā-whānau and family group conferences, and working alongside other agencies, community organisations, and local iwi to improve outcomes.
What you will do
- Meet with tamariki, rangatahi, family members, and whānau to understand their circumstances and perspectives.
- Carry out assessments to identify needs and risks.
- Develop and implement focused intervention plans.
- Participate in hui-ā-whānau and family group conferences.
- Collaborate with external partners, including agencies, community groups, and iwi.
