Senior Civil/Structural Engineer (Onshore)

Overview

This senior engineering role involves acting as the lead Civil/Structural Engineer on a major Power and Desalination Plant project located onshore. The incumbent will have responsibility for delivering technical assurance over the contractor's civil and structural designs throughout all project stages, from initiation to completion, with a focus on both complex onshore and marine infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the review, management, verification, and approval of all civil and structural engineering outputs related to power generation and desalination facilities.
• Ensure design appropriateness for site development, foundations for dynamic equipment, large prestressed potable water retention structures, substantial drainage and earthworks installations, switching stations, and electrical yards.
• Develop detailed scopes of work and provide technical assurances for engineered components.

Required Skills and Experience

• At least 15 years of post-graduate experience in relevant fields, with a minimum of 10 years dedicated to power plants, oil and gas, or heavy industrial sectors.
• Expertise in plant site preparation encompassing roads, earthworks, intricate drainage networks, and foundations for heavy turbines and generators at industrial sites.
• Proven design capabilities for large prestressed potable water storage facilities and extensive seawater tanks and settlement basins.
• Experience in designing nearshore and marine civil projects including seawater intake, brine discharge systems, coastal protection, and nearshore civil works.
• Ability to prepare scopes for geotechnical and topographical investigations and interpret investigative reports critically.
• Demonstrated provision of technical support during the construction phase of large projects, resolving complex engineering challenges.
• Experience across multiple project phases: Concept, Feasibility, FEED, and EPIC.
• Knowledge and application of US and European civil and structural engineering codes and standards.
• Strong independent technical problem-solving skills, managing engineering issues without external assistance.
• Proven competence in managing project timeframes, costs, and quality across multiple simultaneous projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Experience working effectively in multicultural teams.

Educational Background

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is required.
• Possession of Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer certification, or equivalent, is highly desirable.
