Position Overview
Join NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi as a pivotal Regional System Planner dedicated to shaping New Zealand's future transport landscape. This permanent, full-time role based in Waikato/Bay of Plenty offers a unique chance to influence long-term transport strategies by connecting people, places, and plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic transport planning initiatives within Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
- Collaborate with local governments, iwi, partner agencies, and stakeholders to develop a unified long-term vision for transport needs and priorities.
- Act as a crucial liaison between NZTA and wider transport sector, integrating regional and national planning goals.
- Contribute to regional spatial planning efforts and influence investment and policy decisions to enhance community outcomes across Aotearoa.
Candidate Profile
- Significant expertise in transport planning, strategic planning, or related fields with proven leadership in complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Strong background in land-use and transport integration, spatial planning, and collaborative planning environments.
- In-depth understanding of local government planning processes, including Regional Land Transport Plans, Long-Term Plans, and spatial frameworks.
- Proven ability to devise future-oriented strategies and translate visions into actionable results.
- Excellent relationship management, engagement, and influencing abilities to build trust across diverse groups.
- Experience mentoring colleagues and supporting team development.
- Robust analytical skills applying evidence and insights for informed decision-making.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in planning, transport planning, geography, public policy, or equivalent experience.
- Commitment to understanding and embracing Te Ao Māori, tikanga, Te Reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles within public sector functions.
