Role Overview
This office-based position reports directly to the Engineering Stores Manager and centers on managing purchasing and inventory processes to support production and supply chain efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze past data and trends to forecast demand accurately and set optimal inventory levels.
- Keep precise inventory records and reconcile differences between physical stock and system data.
- Monitor purchase orders and delivery timelines to ensure production and customer needs are met.
- Assess supplier performance, lead times, and pricing to inform sourcing decisions.
- Work closely with procurement to implement cost-effective purchasing and timely material replenishment strategies.
- Address issues in the supply chain including shortages and excess stock.
- Prepare and share regular reports regarding inventory metrics, turnover, and cost evaluations.
- Leverage strong expertise in Inventory Management software such as SAP, Oracle, and Pemac.
- Help develop and enforce inventory control policies and best procedures.
- Coordinate with warehouse and logistics to enhance inventory storage and movement.
- Manage supplier open purchase order lines through robotic process automation (RPA).
- Assist in resolving invoice and receiving discrepancies.
- Support craftsmen with stock-related matters as necessary.
- Collaborate with Stores Manager and teams to optimize re-ordering via Pemac using data on usage, lead times, minimum quantities, reorder levels, and reorder quantities.
- Improve cycle-counting processes for stocked parts.
- Document and transfer stock from external and on-site warehouses into Pemac.
- Identify additional low-value or fast-moving items suitable for Free Issue.
- Lead the development and implementation of best purchasing practices for the highest volume and value items.
- Analyze Pemac stock listings to find obsolete items for review by the Engineering team.
Requirements
- Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all data analyses.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with vendors and internal teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
- Flexible team player who can also work independently under pressure.
- Experience with Inventory Management systems (SAP, Oracle, Pemac) and busy warehouse environments is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of purchasing roles, best practices, and project management capabilities.
- Commitment to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Familiarity with ERP or inventory systems is an advantage.
- Understanding of electrical and mechanical spare parts is favorable.
Education and Experience
- Relevant experience in inventory or supply chain management or related fields.
- Two to four years working in purchasing, inventory analysis, or supply chain roles.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical spare parts is considered a plus.
