Role Overview
The role of Project Engineer - Water involves supporting the successful delivery of water infrastructure projects in Ireland, the UK, and internationally, focusing primarily on utility clients. Responsibilities range from early feasibility through design, procurement, and construction to project completion, all while ensuring adherence to program, budget, and quality standards. The candidate will collaborate with senior engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality engineering outputs and continue to grow their technical and project management abilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support project delivery from feasibility and concept design through detailed design, procurement, construction, and completion stages, ensuring projects meet program, budget, and quality targets.
- Prepare feasibility studies, route and site selection analyses, and concept design reports.
- Develop outline and detailed designs, including technical drawings, calculations, and comprehensive reports.
- Produce technical specifications and contract documents for main works and investigation assignments.
- Assist with tender evaluations and procurement activities.
- Support statutory approval documentation, including planning permissions, land acquisition, and wayleaves.
- Participate in contract administration during construction phases, including site inspections and compliance monitoring.
- Contribute to project planning encompassing scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders to enable efficient project execution.
- Ensure technical delivery aligns with all relevant standards, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings with clients, stakeholders, and technical personnel.
- Prepare and submit technical reports, designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for senior review.
- Assist in project cost tracking, schedule monitoring, and managing change requests.
- Support risk identification and the implementation of mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including environmental and planning specialists.
- Maintain clear communication regarding project progress, risks, and technical aspects internally and externally.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to verify progress, quality, and specification adherence.
- Offer guidance and cooperation with junior team members and continue professional development.
- Undertake supplementary duties in response to evolving business and project demands.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or closely related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in water engineering encompassing feasibility studies, detailed designs, procurement, and construction contract administration.
- Proven track record designing and delivering water infrastructure such as treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines, and distribution networks.
- Familiarity with Uisce Éireann or other UK/Ireland water utility companies is advantageous.
- Strong grasp of water engineering principles, regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills to meet project goals.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities suitable for client interaction.
- Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Preferred progress toward professional chartership status (e.g., Engineers Ireland or equivalent).
- Possession of a full clean driving license and willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
