Job description
Role Overview
This position involves comprehensive planning and coordination of construction projects to ensure timely completion within budget and contractual terms. The engineer will use project scheduling software, manage resources, monitor progress, and maintain communication with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Create detailed project plans using Primavera or MS-Project, scheduling tasks with proper sequencing.
- Develop work schedules integrating dependencies including equipment suppliers, erection, and testing teams.
- Set productivity benchmarks tailored to site conditions and project demands.
- Convert Bill of Quantities into elaborate schedules.
- Coordinate with engineering and procurement departments to synchronize construction activities with material and equipment availability.
- Ensure material and equipment availability aligns with project timelines and optimize inventory levels, focusing on critical A & B category items.
- Prevent work stoppages due to resource shortages by maintaining efficient resource management.
- Collaborate with purchasing to develop alternative vendors for critical items and establish a vendor list for local/project-specific procurement.
- Regularly review project progress, implement corrective actions for deviations in schedule and cost, and circulate progress reports to stakeholders.
- Track productivity levels against set targets and proactively manage project risks with mitigation strategies.
- Maintain effective communication across all project stakeholders including clients, consultants, management, and internal teams.
- Manage contractual and financial controls by securing work completion certificates, invoicing promptly, and tracking payments.
- Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for project management, document approvals for additional work, and proper documentation coordination with head office.
- Lead people management activities such as manpower budgeting, mobilization planning, team performance reviews, and fostering high morale and professional growth opportunities.
Educational Requirements and Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Master's degree in Construction Management or a related discipline preferred.
- Certification or proficiency in MS-Project and/or Primavera is required.
