About the Role
The Manual Machinist is responsible for operating various types of machines, including conventional lathe, horizontal and vertical boring machines, milling machines, and others. The role demands adherence to manufacturers' instructions and compliance with established Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) policies to ensure that products are manufactured to the highest standards and delivered within specified deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machinery according to skill level and manufacturer guidelines to complete jobs listed in work orders, using designated materials.
- Inspect cutting tools and materials visually prior to beginning work, replace tools from inventory as necessary, and report any defects to the Workshop Supervisor.
- Operate equipment safely and competently while maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness according to QHSE policies.
- Work collaboratively with Quality Control inspectors upon completion of tasks to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Ensure effective communication during shift handovers, providing important work-specific or safety information.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, or sample parts to identify dimensions, tolerances, operation sequences, and setup requirements.
- Monitor machine operation to spot malfunctions or deviations from tolerance and adjust controls accordingly.
- Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, accessories, and materials on various machines including mills, lathes, vertical borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Carry out additional field, maintenance, or shop duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the working area.
- Perform any other duties assigned.
Skills and Knowledge
- Advanced proficiency with multiple machine types such as lathe, horizontal and vertical boring, and milling.
- Hands-on experience with pedestal drilling, cast machining, ball grinding, surface grinding, milling machines, horizontal and vertical boring machines, and ball machining.
- Quality Control skills in dimensional inspection using precision measuring instruments and checking shaft TIR.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Basic mathematical knowledge and machining understanding.
- Fundamental knowledge of welding processes.
Experience and Education
- At least three years of relevant machining experience.
- Previous experience working with machining API connections is considered beneficial.
- Preferably extensive workshop experience in the oil and gas sector.
- Educational qualifications include ITI in Trade Machinist along with NCVT certification.
Physical and Other Requirements
- Light physical labor is expected.
- Must be physically capable of performing office-related tasks and handling office equipment.
- Willingness to travel throughout the Middle East and GCC countries as required.
- Employees must arrive at work fit for duty, well-rested, and nourished to perform safely and efficiently.
