About ABO Charter School
Abdulla Bin Otaiba Charter School is a prominent institution in Abu Dhabi following the US Curriculum. Primary Responsibilities
- Design and conduct library information literacy sessions enabling students to independently and effectively utilize books, magazines, and online resources.
- Choose and procure new books tailored to each grade level and student interests, as well as materials supporting curricular objectives as requested by teachers.
- Coordinate with teaching staff to ensure relevant subject-specific materials are delivered to classrooms promptly.
- Classify and record all library resources using the automated 'Destiny Follett' system according to the Dewey Decimal Classification; label and cover books appropriately.
- Manage the library database, updating records for both students and teachers continuously.
- Monitor overdue items, collect fees for lost or damaged materials, and repair damaged books when necessary.
- Maintain an inviting library setting conducive to quiet reading or individual study, meeting the diverse needs of students.
- Promote reading enthusiasm through engaging displays and staying informed on new book releases to recommend literature that fosters lifelong reading habits.
- Organize author visits and arrange book fairs in partnership with local bookstores.
- Lead the 'Book Club' initiative, allowing students to order books via a catalogue system and managing bulk order consolidation and distribution.
- Handle book check-in/out processes and reshelve returned materials efficiently.
- Collaborate with teaching and administrative staff to address inquiries related to library functions.
- Adhere to health and safety standards, legal requirements, and institutional policies applicable to the library environment.
- Support the creation and refinement of library policies and procedures.
- Participate in training sessions relevant to enhancing the effectiveness of library operations.
- Perform additional reasonable duties as assigned, consistent with the position's responsibilities and expectations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Library Studies, Information, or a related field.
- Between 1 to 2 years of experience working as a librarian.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient English communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Arabic language ability is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse, multicultural parent community.
- Excellent organizational skills for office and library management.
