About the Role
The Lead Cost Engineer will supervise all operations related to the cost function and the CRM support team, ensuring all commercial project activities adhere to company policies and procedures.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and guarantee the quality and prompt completion of all cost function deliverables, providing direction to the cost team members.
- Ensure personal safety and compliance with HSEQ guidelines and processes.
- Promote effective communication between the cost function and key project stakeholders.
- Maintain and review cost function procedures regularly, ensuring they are practical and user-friendly.
- Create budget breakdowns from project engineering documents, review with project teams, and upload into the project management system.
- Maintain Oracle system data integrity.
- Initiate invoicing in line with contract milestones or agreed payment terms along with necessary documentation, and support finance in client payment follow-ups.
- Oversee project cash flow alongside project managers, submitting necessary reports to finance and highlighting significant deviations from planned cash profiles.
- Estimate and evaluate cost impacts of project changes, monitoring actual expenses linked to these changes.
- Manage cost team members, including their health and welfare, performance targets, competency evaluations, probation status, and attendance.
- Compile comprehensive contract cost reports covering various metrics such as value of work done, forecasts, estimates at completion, variance analyses, and provide insightful commentary on financial movements and cash positions.
- Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction departments to remain informed on activities affecting budgets and phased cost forecasts.
- Organize and lead internal meetings focused on project cost performance.
- Drive project cost closure processes to ensure financial accounts are settled properly.
- Prepare and present commercial project reviews to senior management during monthly meetings.
- Participate in client project control meetings and provide updates on commercial and cost status.
- Provide current project budgets and revenue details for broader business unit budget forecasting.
- Adhere to the company's and clients' core values, fostering continuous improvement.
- Exhibit excellent communication skills and lead a diverse multinational team across multiple locations.
- Comply with all relevant health, safety, environmental, security policies, and information security protocols.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 8 years' experience, preferably in major oil and gas projects.
- At least 3 years serving specifically as a Lead Cost Engineer.
- Degree in quantity surveying, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Advanced skills in Excel, alongside experience using cost estimation and risk assessment software.
- Strong understanding of project execution processes and ability to interpret contractual terms, conditions, and specifications.
- Familiarity with total cost management methods and cost engineering principles.
