Junior SQL Developer

Role overview

This onsite position is based at the client location five days a week in Middletown, New York. The role focuses on working with data using SQL, Excel, and Google Sheets, while also applying generative AI and prompt-writing techniques to improve workflows and automate repetitive data tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and fine-tune complex spreadsheets in Excel and Google Sheets by using advanced formulas and pivot tables.
• Develop, update, and run SQL statements such as SELECT, JOIN, WHERE, and GROUP BY to pull and reshape information from relational databases.
• Build, test, and improve prompts for AI platforms to automate text generation, summarize information, and support cleaner data-processing workflows.
• Use AI tools along with spreadsheet automation such as App Script or VBA to reduce manual data entry and reporting effort.
• Support the review, cleaning, and validation of data across spreadsheet and database environments.
• Convert raw datasets into practical reports and dashboards that are easy to understand and act on.

Required knowledge and skills

• Strong hands-on ability with Excel and Google Sheets, including functions such as VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and pivot tables.
• Working knowledge of relational database concepts and SQL querying.
• Experience creating, assessing, and refining prompts for AI systems such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
• Well-developed analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
• Exposure to Python or R for data handling and manipulation.
• Experience producing reports in tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Google Looker Studio.
• Background in K-12 education, higher education, or government settings is considered an advantage.
