Overview
Vertiv is a leader in designing and delivering critical infrastructure products that sustain digital services globally, including data centers, communication networks, and industrial facilities. We seek a Graduate Product Development Engineer to join our Research and Development team at our Burnfoot, County Donegal, Ireland location. This role offers an excellent opportunity for recent engineering graduates to enhance their technical abilities by contributing to the development of advanced busbar trunking systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the entire product development process from initial concept to product launch.
- Generate 3D CAD models and detailed 2D engineering drawings using software like Creo or SolidWorks.
- Assist in prototype assembly, testing phases, and validation of designs.
- Acquire knowledge on compliance with international standards such as IEC 61439 and UL857.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, sourcing, marketing, and product management teams to facilitate new product introductions.
- Identify and propose improvements for existing products via engineering change controls.
- Participate in product risk evaluations including DFMEA activities and attend design review meetings.
- Manage and update engineering documentation using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and best practices within engineering disciplines.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or related areas.
- Has familiarity with 3D CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent through academic projects or internships.
- Understand engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrates strong analytical thinking and a problem-solving mindset.
- Possesses effective communication and teamwork capabilities.
- Shows enthusiasm for continual learning and tackling new challenges.
- Maintains excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Additional Desirable Experience
- Exposure via academic projects or internships to manufacturing or product development settings.
- Experience with sheet metal, plastics, or mechanical assembly design.
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) or Design for Assembly (DFA) methodologies.
- Familiarity with PLM software and Microsoft Office tools.
- Understanding of data center or power distribution technologies (advantageous but not mandatory).
