Role Overview

The GM in Training position at Loblaws Inc., based in Nanaimo, BC, is a full-time, on-site role designed to educate the candidate on comprehensive store operations. Responsibilities include assisting department managers, overseeing sales and performance figures, planning schedules and labor needs, and ensuring adherence to company policies and health and safety regulations. The role involves supporting daily routines such as opening and closing the store, addressing customer inquiries, and maintaining an orderly and appealing store environment. This position serves as a pathway to independently managing store operations, promoting sales growth, and nurturing a positive workplace culture.

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership skills with experience in coaching, team coordination, and performance support.
  • Strong customer service aptitude aimed at issue resolution, cultivating loyalty, and maintaining an inviting store atmosphere.
  • Fundamental knowledge of business and retail operations, including sales tracking, inventory management, merchandising, and cash handling.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of working collaboratively with diverse team members and confidently engaging customers.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to prioritize and adapt to shifting store demands.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Previous experience in retail, grocery, or supervisory roles is advantageous, along with familiarity with point-of-sale and store management software.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in business, retail management, or related disciplines is a plus.
