Role Overview

You will be engaged in developing and maintaining critical software projects such as the ClusterCockpit Monitoring Framework and the HPC User Portal. Your responsibilities include deploying and managing several web applications including ClusterCockpit, HPC User Portal, Moodle, Hedgedoc, and Discourse. Managing internal HPC Single Sign-On (SSO) infrastructure, overseeing the KeyCloak instance, renewing TLS certificates and JSON Web Tokens (JWT) also fall within your scope. In addition, you will document these software products both for internal HPC teams and end-users and provide user support focusing on ClusterCockpit and the HPC Portal. Representing the team at national and international scientific conferences and contributing to organizing workshops and tutorials will also be part of your role.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain software projects like ClusterCockpit and HPC User Portal
Oversee deployment and administration of web applications such as ClusterCockpit, HPC User Portal, Moodle, Hedgedoc, and Discourse
Manage internal HPC SSO infrastructure and administer the KeyCloak platform
Renew TLS certificates and JWT tokens systematically
Provide comprehensive documentation internally and for users, especially regarding ClusterCockpit
Offer user support primarily related to ClusterCockpit and HPC Portal
Participate and represent the organization at scientific conferences and contribute to workshop and tutorial planning

Required Qualifications

PhD in a technical or scientific discipline
Strong programming skills in web backends, including Golang and Java Grails
Expertise in JavaScript and experience with frontend UI frameworks such as Svelte and Vue
Proficient with relational databases (SQL, specifically sqlite and PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (especially MongoDB)
Experience with container-based application deployment and development (Docker, Docker Compose, Portainer)
Advanced knowledge in designing and implementing REST and GraphQL APIs
Familiarity with NATS messaging framework
Practical experience with server and server service administration
Expertise in Shibboleth SSO, KeyCloak, and the DFN AAI SSO infrastructure
Strong background in open-source software engineering, version control systems, collaborative code development using git, make, CI/CD with GitLab and GitHub
Experience providing IT user support, particularly in HPC environments
Knowledge in using, administering and operating HPC systems such as Slurm, Modules, and Spack
Skills in shell and scripting languages including Python, Bash, Perl
Proficiency in at least one HPC-typical programming language such as C/C++ or Fortran

Near-native fluency in German and fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken, are essential. Additionally, an independent working style, strong teamwork abilities, and enthusiasm for new challenges are expected.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with ticketing systems like OTRS
Familiarity with the organizational structure of FAU
