Environmental Officer

Role Overview

The Environmental Officer ensures adherence to leading industry standards by managing and communicating environmental initiatives focused on sustainable development. This role supports local, regional, and international sustainability projects while staying informed on global environmental best practices to promote continual improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all environmental aspects of projects, yards, and facilities by developing and enforcing environmental requirements.
• Implement the Environment Management Plan (EMP) and contribute to the formulation of project HSE strategies, often overseeing specific sections or projects.
• Distribute information about environmental programs that promote sustainable development.
• Monitor operational impact on natural environments, identify risks, and create adaptive strategies to reduce negative effects.
• Conduct Environmental Aspects and Impacts Analysis across all work sites.
• Evaluate and apply recommendations to enhance environmental outcomes positively.
• Control and minimize significant negative impacts from project activities to encourage beneficial environmental change.
• Maintain continual improvements through ongoing monitoring, evaluation, and process reviews.
• Advocate and apply environmental enhancement tools addressing factors such as air, water, land, noise, dust, waste, and operational processes.
• Assist with preparing environmental content in tender proposals and project bids, ensuring compliance with criteria and adjusting implementation per developments.
• Comply with organizational and legal environmental requirements thoroughly.
• Promote environmental awareness and training initiatives to foster a positive environmental mindset among employees and workers.
• Design and deliver environmental and HSE training programs aimed at sustainable development.
• Recommend practical measures for current and emerging environmental challenges.
• Support the achievement and regular assessment of environmental objectives and targets in coordination with HSE leadership.
• Provide expert technical advice, guidance, and solutions regarding environmental concerns at project sites.
• Recommend measures to prevent environmental incidents and ensure effective containment management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or related discipline.
• Preferred certifications include NEBOSH Diploma and Lead Auditor qualifications in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 22301.
• Experience ranging from 0 to over 6 years in the environmental sector.
