Role Overview
This senior-level position focuses on overseeing the entire enterprise's IT architecture from a governance perspective rather than hands-on engineering. The role involves establishing and enforcing standards related to IT infrastructure, high availability, and resilience across a diverse hybrid and multi-cloud environment. You will evaluate existing systems, assess proposals for potential risks, and guide the organization towards optimal technology decisions. As a key member of the Architecture Review Board, you will lead governance activities especially concerning mergers and acquisitions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversee current and proposed infrastructure designs including backup, networking, compute/storage, cloud services, and high availability by conducting comprehensive gap analyses and delivering actionable recommendations.
- Act as a principal reviewer on the Architecture Review Board and spearhead infrastructure due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, focusing on risk assessment and integration challenges.
- Define, maintain, and govern enterprise-wide architecture standards and frameworks aligned with compliance standards such as NIST, ISO 27001, SOX, and GDP, particularly for high availability, resilience, and technology lifecycles.
- Convert complex technical evaluations into executive summaries, risk scorecards, and remediation plans for senior leadership and governance committees.
- Collaborate closely with teams from infrastructure, cloud, network, security (CISO), and applications to promote architectural redesigns and integrate governance into ongoing changes and project deliveries.
- Influence vendor selection and technology decisions by evaluating them regarding standards adherence and risk management.
Qualifications and Experience
- More than 10 years of experience in enterprise IT with at least 3 years focused on governance, architecture review, or enterprise-level assessments (non-engineering roles).
- Expert proficiency in at least two of the following areas: backup and recovery, network design, compute/storage, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and high-availability architecture.
- Demonstrated success in leading architecture reviews, executing gap analyses, producing executive-level documentation, and remediation activities within large, complex organizations.
- Strong understanding of multi-cloud and hybrid resilience considerations (hands-on implementation experience is not required).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to executive-level stakeholders, including C-suite and board members.
- Capability to work independently, juggle multiple priorities, and set compliance and quality standards for others.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, IT, or a related field; advanced degrees like a Master's or MBA are advantageous.
Preferred Credentials
- Certifications such as TOGAF 9/10, Cisco CCIE, AWS/Azure Architect (Professional/Expert), ITIL 4, or CISAM.
- Experience conducting technical due diligence and familiarity with regulated sectors with audit and compliance exposure.
- Qualifications like CRISC, CGEIT, SABSA, or CISSP and knowledge of backup governance tools (for example, Commvault, Cohesity, Veeam).
- Background in ransomware resilience or cyber-recovery design evaluations.
- Understanding of standards such as NIST CSF, ISO/IEC 27001, and CIS Controls.
