Job description
Role Overview
At First Student, the Dispatcher plays a crucial role in upholding the company's dedication to safety and superior customer service. This position involves coordinating all bus dispatch operations, ensuring punctual route execution, and providing guidance to drivers and monitors on the front line.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all bus routes and scheduling activities
- Offer counseling and coaching support to drivers and monitors
- Manage heavy volumes of communication via phone and radio
- Receive and address scheduling and driver complaints, escalating issues to Operations Supervisor or Contract Manager as necessary
- Act as the primary liaison with major contracted customers for communications
- Possibly oversee charter reservations, billing processes, or driver payroll tasks
- Develop and implement solutions for drop-off and pick-up challenges
- Perform backup driver roles or clerical duties when needed
- Complete special project assignments as delegated
- Assist with the oversight of daily operational activities
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a relevant dispatcher or terminal operations role
- High school diploma or equivalent educational background
- Basic understanding and operation of radio dispatch equipment
- Strong communication and customer service capabilities
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
- Computer proficiency
- Subject to background verification
