Role Overview
The Customs Clerk will manage the coordination of freight clearance documentation with relevant customs authorities, providing expert guidance on customs regulations for both origin and destination countries. This position may require working in shift patterns.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate customs clearance documentation processes for clients.
- Engage daily with customs authorities to facilitate clearance.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to all clients.
- Serve as the compliance expert on customs-related matters and resolve issues with customers promptly.
- Review policies, procedures, and controls related to customs compliance.
- Ensure adherence to customs regulations across customer accounts and business operations.
- Identify opportunities for improvement, risk mitigation, and IT solutions to enhance compliance and control mechanisms.
- Collaborate within the Expeditors network to standardize processes and share best practices regionally.
- Support key accounts by ensuring their specific customs requirements are met.
- Stay current with customs laws and regulations, ensuring timely implementation of changes.
- Oversee the correct processing and collection of Duty and VAT.
- Promptly address and resolve any queries or refunds related to customs processes.
- Maintain, update, and enforce all departmental standard operating procedures (DLSOPs).
- Assist sales and account management teams by providing cost-saving options regarding customs processes.
- Perform daily and weekly audits of all customs entries.
- Provide training and updates to new and existing staff on customs regulations and departmental procedures.
Qualifications and Experience
- Between 1 and 2 years of experience in customs operations.
- Deep familiarity with Irish customs procedures and regulatory systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging with customers and colleagues at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows OS, email, and various PC-based software applications.
