About the Organization
The Jamaica Bankers Association (JBA) serves as the official representative body for all licensed deposit-taking institutions within Jamaica. It is committed to fostering a banking sector that is stable, efficient, and centered around the customer experience. Through collaboration, advocacy, and setting industry benchmarks, the JBA engages actively with regulators, policymakers, and diverse stakeholders to address critical matters impacting banking services. Additionally, the Association drives initiatives aimed at improving public knowledge of banking and building confidence in the nation's financial system, thereby influencing policy and communication strategies across the banking industry in Jamaica.
Role Overview
The position of Communications Officer at the Jamaica Bankers Association is a full-time role based in Kingston, operated in a hybrid work setting that offers some flexibility for remote work. This junior managerial role reports directly to the CEO and supports efforts to maintain the Association's public image, manage relationships with stakeholders, respond to media inquiries, and uphold the reputation of Jamaica's banking sector. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong discipline in communication, possess excellent writing skills, demonstrate sound judgment, and have the capacity to interpret complex financial and consumer topics into clear, reliable, and balanced public messages.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily communications planning aligned with the Association's objectives.
- Draft and refine public statements, advisories, speeches, talking points, FAQs, social media updates, and briefings for stakeholders.
- Support media relations efforts, including monitoring issues and proactively messaging on developments within the banking industry.
Qualifications and Skills
- Adept at writing and editing with strong editorial judgment.
- Three to five years of experience in communications, journalism, public relations, corporate or public affairs, stakeholder engagement, or related fields.
- A relevant degree in communications, journalism, public relations, media, marketing, business, public policy, or related disciplines.
- Capability to interact effectively with senior stakeholders and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Experience with social media monitoring, content scheduling, and basic analytics tools.
- Keen interest in financial services, public policy, consumer affairs, and the economic growth of Jamaica.
- Background or experience in financial services, regulatory industries, business associations, professional services, journalism, or public affairs would be advantageous.
