Role overview
Serco is looking for a Cleaning Operative to help keep Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre clean, safe, and well maintained. The site includes Brook House and Tinsley House Immigration Removal Centres, plus Gatwick Pre-Departure Accommodation, a discreet annex to Tinsley House that supports families with children under 18. Serco runs these operations on behalf of the Home Office.
Working hours and pay
This is a full-time position of 38.5 hours per week. The salary is £25,866.78 per year.
What you will do
You will be responsible for cleaning assigned areas to a high standard using the equipment provided, keeping cleaning schedules up to date, maintaining records for tools and equipment, and supporting the facilities team with any other tasks assigned by the Facilities Manager or Senior Engineer.
Main duties
- Keep cleaning supplies stocked in the designated areas.
- Follow all health and safety rules related to cleaning.
- Use cleaning machinery such as vacuums, floor buffers, and wet vacuum machines.
- Clean all allocated areas in line with the cleaning schedule.
- Take on other tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager or Senior Engineer.
Requirements
- Prior experience in cleaning is required.
- A basic qualification in health and safety is needed.
- Confidence in using cleaning equipment is essential.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels are important.
- You should be flexible, proactive, self-motivated, and able to prioritise your workload.
Security and vetting
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Employment offers depend on security clearance and Home Office approval. You must be able to provide a five-year checkable work and reference history for vetting purposes.
