Position Overview
This role involves maintenance and troubleshooting of UC-35 Cessna Citation aircraft used for launch and recovery operations. The specialist will diagnose faults across various aircraft systems including structure, landing gear, flight controls, anti-icing, pneudraulics, engines, auxiliary power units, ventilation, and heating.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct operational checks on repaired or modified aircraft systems to ensure proper functioning.
- Carry out quality maintenance following federal aviation regulations, OEM guidelines, and military technical orders, as outlined in work instructions.
- Repair or replace aircraft structural components such as wings and fuselage, as well as functional parts like rigging, surface controls, and hydraulic units using appropriate tools.
- Interpret technical manuals and manufacturer documents to determine repair strategies for malfunctioning or damaged parts.
- Inspect engines for oil leaks and listen to engine operation to identify potential issues.
- Examine turbine blades for cracks or breaks and perform engine tests using diagnostic equipment to detect malfunctions.
- Remove, disassemble, inspect, repair, or replace engine and aircraft components as necessary.
- Perform aircraft servicing duties including cleaning, greasing moving parts, flushing crankcases, and brake checks.
- Provide line station support for engines and airframe components, performing repairs short of overhaul to maintain safe operations.
- May specialize in structural work, precision parts repair, or engine maintenance tasks.
- Execute other assigned duties consistent with qualifications.
Skills and Expertise
- In-depth knowledge of aircraft sub-systems, including operating parameters, maintenance standards, and technical orders.
- Capability to qualify and conduct engine runs for assigned aircraft models.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and interpreting technical materials.
- Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing work environments.
Required Qualifications
- Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification.
- Compliance with FAA standards for maintenance personnel on certified aircraft.
- At least three years of full-time relevant aircraft mechanic experience, ideally five years preferred, including recent involvement (within past 12 months) on assigned aircraft.
- Minimum six months experience in both flight line and overhaul & inspection operations.
- Formal training on the assigned aircraft preferable.
- Certification by US Government armed forces aircraft mechanic programs or civilian equivalents considered an asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Tools supplied by employer.
Security Clearance and Citizenship
Applicants must be U.S. citizens eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Department of the Workforce Secret Security Clearance and associated facility credentials required to work onsite.
Physical and Environmental Demands
- Ability to stand and walk on varied surfaces for extended periods.
- Capability to climb stairs, ladders, ramps, and work on elevated platforms.
- Physically able to bend, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp objects, and use fine motor skills.
- May need to lift or move weights exceeding 50 pounds at varying heights.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read small print, gauges, detect imperfections, and distinguish colors.
- Effective verbal communication and auditory capacity to interact over telephones and with team members.
- Capability to operate various machinery, power tools, ground support equipment, forklifts, and APUs.
- Must be able to live and work in potentially hostile or austere environments with exposure to noise, fumes, electrical hazards, and extreme weather conditions.
- Willingness and ability to undertake international travel to remote and challenging locations.
