Role Overview
The Head of Engineering at Fig will be a key leader reporting to the COO, participating in strategic leadership discussions and helping transition Fig from a single-product lender to a multi-product financial platform. This role involves defining long-term technology strategies, engineering culture, and platform architecture while supporting rapid business scaling and product expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering strategy, technology roadmap, and platform design to support Fig's growth into multiple financial products.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver new financial products from inception to launch.
- Align technology initiatives with business strategy and operational goals to support long-term growth.
- Build and manage a high-performing engineering team fostering ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Make critical technical decisions regarding infrastructure, security, scalability, and system reliability balancing immediate needs with sustainable architecture.
- Oversee internal and external engineering efforts, ensuring accountability and high-quality outcomes.
- Enhance engineering processes through tooling, automation, and AI to improve productivity and organizational leverage.
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Customer Experience teams to develop secure and scalable systems supporting core lending and future offerings.
- Represent technology in executive and board discussions involving strategy, risk, scalability, and growth planning.
Candidate Profile
- Proven ability to operate effectively in both fast-paced startup environments and regulated financial contexts, balancing speed, collaboration, quality, and risk.
- Experience launching and scaling fintech, lending, banking, payments, or similarly regulated product lines.
- Strong expertise in evaluating and guiding architecture and engineering decisions for complex evolving systems.
- Demonstrated track record balancing rapid execution with reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Effective leadership during ambiguous and evolving scenarios, guiding teams through changing priorities and trade-offs.
- Skill in fostering a healthy, high-performing engineering culture.
- Experience collaborating with external vendors and integrating distributed engineering teams into cohesive efforts.
- Excellent communication skills to influence and align stakeholders across technical and business areas.
- Hands-on, pragmatic approach with willingness to directly engage in problem-solving when necessary.
- Strong interest in AI and emerging technologies, with the capability to apply these to enhance engineering and operational efficiency.
- Systems thinker with a preference for designing simple, scalable, and resilient solutions.
