Vice President of Software Engineering

Role Overview

We are looking for a visionary Vice President of Software Development to spearhead our software engineering organization. This position will lead multiple engineering teams to deliver innovative, secure, and scalable technology solutions leveraging cutting-edge Microsoft platforms across the enterprise. The chosen candidate will define and implement software development strategies while fostering operational excellence, regulatory conformity, and digital transformation in a regulated financial services sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and mentor a diverse group of Software Development Managers, Engineering Leads, Architects, and Engineers based in Germany and nearby offices.
• Promote a culture emphasizing collaboration, responsibility, creativity, and continuous upskilling.
• Champion modern software delivery practices and engineering best standards.
• Develop leadership succession and talent growth initiatives to enhance organizational capability.
• Attract and maintain top-tier engineering talent amid competitive markets.
• Lead enterprise application design, deployment, and operations on Microsoft technologies.
• Drive cloud-native platform advancement using Microsoft Azure services such as Azure App Services, Kubernetes Service, Functions, API Management, Data and AI Services.
• Encourage use of .NET frameworks alongside reusable APIs, microservices, and event-driven designs consistent with enterprise architecture and security policies.
• Establish mature CI/CD processes utilizing Azure DevOps and GitHub Enterprise.
• Push Infrastructure as Code practices with tools like Bicep, ARM Templates, and Terraform.
• Implement DevSecOps throughout development cycles, enhancing software quality, deployment speed, reliability and operational resilience.
• Set and evaluate engineering KPIs, service and operational metrics for continuous process improvements.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulatory standards including DORA, ISO27001, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework in collaboration with information security and audit teams.
• Embed secure-by-design methodologies and cloud security controls in all development activities.
• Support operational resilience, disaster recovery, and business continuity in software delivery.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related disciplines.
• At least 15 years of software engineering experience with minimum 5 years in senior leadership roles.
• Strong leadership background within financial services sectors including banking, insurance, asset management, fintech, or similarly regulated environments.
• Proven record delivering large-scale technology transformation initiatives.
• Experience leading sizable teams of 50 or more software engineers and related technology staff.
• Demonstrated commercial acumen managing sizable technology budgets and investment portfolios.
• History of productive engagements with regulators, auditors, and governance bodies.
