Role Overview
ArborMetrics Solutions is seeking a Transmission Work Planner to join its vegetation management team. This position suits someone who enjoys outdoor work, thrives when working independently, and is comfortable in a fast-moving, challenge-driven environment. The role supports utility vegetation management with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and customer value.
What You Will Do
- Spot and report hazards, incidents, and unsafe site conditions.
- Follow company safety practices, including safe driving, wildfire prevention, and injury prevention measures.
- Represent company values through day-to-day conduct and encourage others to do the same.
- Travel to work locations safely and hike right-of-way areas, including distances of up to 10 miles per day.
- Move through steep ground and dense vegetation while traversing utility corridors.
- Inspect and document vegetation maintenance such as pruning and removals on customer properties.
- Capture vegetation information using tablets and specialized field software.
- Use forestry-related computer systems for recording and tracking work data.
- Respond to customer concerns and complaints about vegetation work in a timely manner.
- Communicate professionally with leadership, auditors, clients, contractors, landowners, and members of the public.
- Support positive public relations through courteous and professional interactions.
- Take part in storm response and emergency assignments when required.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to identify tree species and understand tree growth patterns.
- Knowledge of hazard tree assessment and invasive species management.
- Understanding of utility vegetation management practices.
- Experience using GIS tools, Microsoft Office applications, and Apple devices such as iPhone and iPad.
- Comfort working alone outdoors in changing weather and terrain conditions.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, multitasking, and detail-oriented skills.
- Willingness and ability to adapt to change.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The work is primarily field-based and outdoors, though some time may be spent in a vehicle or a limited indoor office setting. The role may involve low-light conditions, remote locations, and urban environments. Field conditions can include powerline or pipeline corridors, heavy walking or hiking across varied surfaces, and exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, extreme weather, traffic hazards, animals, insects, and poisonous plants.
Physical duties may include walking or hiking up to 10 miles per day, standing or sitting for long periods, operating a motor vehicle, frequent bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing, twisting, reaching, and repetitive arm and hand motions. The job may require carrying, pushing, or pulling light to heavy loads, with regular lifting up to 10 lbs and occasional lifting up to 60 lbs. Equipment used may include handheld computers, range finders, fyrake, water backpack, shovel, and traffic cone.
Qualifications and Additional Notes
Applicants should be able to work independently outdoors and drive for extended periods. A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required. Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check. Experience from forestry, arboriculture, natural resources, biology, landscape maintenance, horticulture, nursery management, environmental sciences, geology, agriculture, parks and recreation, urban forestry, geography, and related fields may be relevant.
ISA certification or an equivalent credential is preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish ability is a plus.
