Job description

Role Overview

Our client, a fast-expanding transport and logistics firm, is revamping its planning department by introducing a Planning Support (Trainee Planner) position. This role aims to reinforce the planning team and cultivate future leaders in transport and operations.

This is more than an entry-level opening; it is a bona fide career opportunity offering full training and clear advancement into roles such as Transport Planner, Senior Planner, Transport Manager, Fleet Manager, or other operations positions. The company is growing rapidly with plans to open new facilities in the next year.

Key Responsibilities

Initially, the Trainee Planner will provide operational backing to the planning team, not yet allocating tasks independently. The daily duties include:

  • Assisting experienced transport planners
  • Monitoring ongoing transport activities throughout the day
  • Ensuring smooth progression of scheduled jobs
  • Supporting driver coordination efforts
  • Escalating any emerging issues appropriately
  • Maintaining seamless day-to-day operations

With time and training, the role will evolve into a full planning capacity.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The employer prioritizes attitude and potential over direct planning background. Suitable candidates may come from:

  • Transport or logistics administration
  • Warehouse or transport office environments
  • Pharmaceutical logistics
  • Graduate programs with interest in logistics or supply chains
  • Individuals seeking a committed long-term career rather than temporary work

Desired qualities include:

  • Strong eagerness to learn and grow
  • Confidence in communication
  • Proactive mindset utilizing initiative
  • Practicality with sound common sense
  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving workplace
  • Motivation for a career path development

Training and Support

The successful applicant will undertake comprehensive training spanning approximately 4 to 8 weeks, depending on individual progress. Training occurs Monday through Friday, conducted in-office. Shift work assignments begin only after full competency is attained.

Ongoing support is guaranteed from skilled planners, a Planning Manager, Transport Manager, Head of Operations, and Operations Director.

Work Schedule

Initially, the role follows a Monday-to-Friday daytime schedule based at the office. As the company grows into a seven-day operation to meet customer demands, the position will transition into a rotational roster-based system which may include:

  • Early morning shifts
  • Afternoon and evening shifts, potentially ending around 9 PM
  • Weekend shifts
  • Final shift pattern details are pending

Candidates should be adaptable and comfortable with rotating work schedules.
