Technician, Facility Services, Exterior Services-DOT

Position summary

This role is responsible for overseeing department operations and carrying out related duties as needed. It involves maintaining compliance, supporting facility upkeep, and helping ensure safe and efficient exterior services work across assigned locations.

Key responsibilities

• Support and enforce company policies, procedures, ethics, and integrity standards, including use of the Open Door Policy and escalation of compliance concerns.
• Carry out work in line with OSHA and EPA requirements, as well as Walmart exterior service, safety, and environmental guidelines.
• Help control operating expenses by comparing pricing for parts, equipment, and travel costs, and by submitting warranty claims.
• Prepare and send required documentation such as expense vouchers, weekly summaries, and work orders to Regional Managers and Home Office staff.
• Lead third-party vendors by encouraging professional development, coaching performance, and conducting quality assurance inspections.
• Communicate with facility users to understand event needs, resolve complaints, and support a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
• Assess replacement needs for landscaping and site materials, support sustainability upgrades, and coordinate with Home Office to standardize equipment and reduce inventory.
• Source tools and equipment needed for repairs and ensure completed work meets quality and safety standards.
• Develop cost estimates, prepare budgets, approve purchases of parts, materials, equipment, and supplies, and confirm receipt and acceptance of purchases.
• Gather capital expenditure requests and define scopes of work for facility updates, including landscaping, snow response, seasonal case cleaning, cart preventive maintenance, and related service needs.
• Perform seasonal exterior work, including snow and ice management, de-icing, walkway and drive clearing, and winter preparedness activities.
• Maintain assigned vehicles in safe mechanical and clean condition, arrange maintenance as needed, verify insurance coverage, and submit maintenance invoices for payment.
• Operate vehicles, heavy machinery, and powered equipment safely and in line with training, certification, and inspection requirements.
• Perform pre-use safety checks and post-use inspections, identify hazards or equipment issues, and take corrective action or escalate when needed.
• Ensure vehicles are secured when not in use, keys are stored properly, and assigned vehicles are parked in designated Walmart locations.
• Complete assigned work by using policies, data, resources, collaboration, and continuous improvement practices.
• Model Walmart values by working collaboratively, mentoring others, maintaining accountability, and supporting customers and stakeholders.

Minimum qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license.
• No DUI, DWI, OUI, or reckless driving convictions involving alcohol or drugs within the last 3 years.
• For commercial motor vehicle operation: no more than 2 moving violations in the last 3 years, no serious traffic violations in the last 3 years, and no preventable accidents in the last 3 years.
• Successful completion of a DOT physical and medical certification before hire.
• Ability to read and speak English as required by federal motor carrier safety regulations.
• At least 2 years of experience in the landscaping or gardening industry.

Preferred qualifications

• Ability to complete a DOT physical and maintain a minimum 90-day Medical Examiner’s Certification (MEC) card.
• Associate’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Maintenance, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Experience managing third-party vendors or providers.
• Intermediate computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, email, and presentation tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Spanish speaking and comprehension skills.
• Any required state or local licensing where applicable.

Additional information

The hourly pay range for this job is $19.00 to $35.00. Actual pay must meet or exceed the minimum wage required at the work location. Extra hourly premiums of $0.35 to $3.00 may apply depending on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed, and more than one premium may apply if the criteria are met.
