About the Role
Gritter Francona seeks a Technical Writer/Editor to support the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) National Center for PTSD's educational media projects by creating, revising, and reviewing various written content. This role requires transforming complex scientific research, clinical protocols, and technical details into clear, accessible materials intended for Veterans, trauma survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and the general public.
The Technical Writer/Editor will collaborate with project managers, subject matter experts, scriptwriters, video producers, graphic designers, and government representatives to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the mission of delivering compassionate, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed educational resources. The written outputs must be technically precise, grammatically correct, and employ a serious yet hopeful tone to engage readers effectively.
Core Responsibilities
- Investigate, compose, revise, and polish diverse written materials supporting educational videos and public outreach efforts.
- Produce and refine reports, articles, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, guidebooks, training manuals, fact sheets, reference documents, speeches, scripts, news releases, website content, and other communications.
- Convert scientific literature, clinical guidelines, and technical data into straightforward language suitable for broad audiences.
- Perform thorough reviews ensuring technical precision, readability, grammar accuracy, style uniformity, and alignment with clinical guidance.
- Partner with SMEs, clinicians, researchers, project managers, and government stakeholders to validate content completeness and correctness.
- Edit scripts and production materials to maintain consistency with evidence-based information and key messaging.
- Apply federal plain language principles and editorial standards to enhance clarity and audience understanding.
- Maintain a compassionate, hopeful, and serious tone in materials discussing trauma, PTSD, treatments, and related conditions.
- Create content that is trauma-informed, culturally respectful, and honors the diverse backgrounds of Veterans and trauma-affected individuals.
- Manage document review processes, integrate government feedback, and uphold version control and editorial coherence.
- Ensure accuracy of citations, references, terminology, and formatting across deliverables.
- Comply with accessibility standards, organizational styling guides, branding protocols, and quality assurance measures.
- Contribute to public awareness initiatives like PTSD Awareness Month by crafting and editing educational and promotional communications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, Public Health, Health Communications, or a related field.
- At least three years of professional experience in technical writing and editing pertinent to this task's needs.
- Proven track record of developing and refining professional communications for healthcare, government, education, or scientific sectors.
