Support Worker - Tauranga

About the Role

IDEA Services provides support to people with intellectual disabilities, helping them live fulfilling lives at home and within their communities. As a Support Worker, you will assist individuals with intellectual disabilities, including those with complex needs, by managing risks, ensuring their safety, and delivering personalized care. This role involves encouraging positive behaviors and creating a nurturing environment where clients can thrive. Previous experience in the disability or aged care sectors is preferred, especially experience handling challenging behaviors with resilience.

Key Responsibilities

• Help clients recognize and safely respond to emotional overwhelm.
• Support the development of independence and daily living skills such as using public transport, employment, and meal preparation.
• Assist with managing everyday routines including toileting, showering, dressing, medication, and eating.
• Encourage clients to pursue their interests, goals, and hobbies.
• Promote healthy lifestyle choices and positive decision-making.
• Facilitate strong relationships with clients' whānau and community.

Candidate Requirements

• Preferably experienced in caregiving or personal care for adults.
• A calm demeanor and confidence in working with challenging behaviors.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends and sleepovers.
• Proficient and comfortable using computers and tablets daily.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Physically fit to provide necessary support.
• Possession of a full New Zealand driver's license.

• Hourly pay ranging from $24.68 to $30.13, depending on qualifications, with potential for increases as you earn further qualifications.

• Permanent full-time position based in Tauranga, including weekend and overnight shifts.
