Caislean Adult Services offer various community-based provisions such as day programs, residential care, respite, outreach, family support, and multidisciplinary assistance. Support settings include day centers, supported employment, social enterprises, training, and individual or group residential housing. The aim is for service users to engage meaningfully in their communities and create social ties.

Role Overview

The Social Care Worker plays a vital role in advocating for and supporting adults with intellectual disabilities, focusing on empowering their abilities, fostering independence, and skill development. Responsibilities include assisting with individualized person-centred planning and encouraging informed decision-making. The worker strives to promote community participation through creative and inclusive thinking, supporting positive risk-taking for personal growth.

Working Environment and Hours

Services are geographically dispersed across the West Sector and include various programs and locations such as community houses and day care areas. Flexibility is essential as workers may be assigned to different locations and shift times, operating typically Monday to Friday with possible weekend work. The standard workload is 78 hours per fortnight on a five-day roster, with working hours potentially ranging from 8 am to 8 pm over seven days based on service needs.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Applicants must hold a relevant third-level qualification in Social Care or the Health Sector, such as a Nursing qualification with current registration from NMBI, or Social Care qualification with registration or eligibility for registration with the Social Care Workers Registration Board - CORU. Evidence of application for registration is acceptable under Section 91.
• A full, clean manual driving licence valid on Irish roads is essential; obtaining a Class D1 licence may also be necessary, with support provided for this.
• Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, or complex needs is preferred, though training and induction will be provided.
• Fluency in spoken and written English and proficiency in IT skills are mandatory.

Additional Employment Details

• Annual leave entitles 22 days per year (pro-rata if part-time), equating to 8.46 hours per 100 hours worked, plus service-related leave after 5 and 10 years.
• Salary follows the Department of Health Social Care Worker scale effective from 01/06/2026, ranging from €41,260 to €56,717 per annum pro-rata, with a long service increment of €57,789 after 3 years on the maximum scale.
• Additional compensation applies for weekends, public holidays, and night shifts.
• The salary is based on a 39-hour working week; incremental credit may be granted for verified prior public sector experience.
• One permanent full-time pensionable position is currently available; a panel may be formed for future full-time, part-time, temporary, or specified purpose vacancies over the next six months.
• A nine-month probationary period applies, with possible extension at employer discretion and termination during probation if performance is unsatisfactory.
