Job description
Role Overview
Join Beca as a Planner or Senior Planner within our Christchurch office with opportunities across Auckland and Wellington as well. This role involves contributing to diverse local and national projects spanning sectors such as local government, transport, three waters, energy, and community infrastructure. Collaborate with a dedicated team of planning professionals and clients including Watercare, Auckland Council, Wellington City Council, Transpower, and other key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert planning advice and lead project delivery on multidisciplinary community-impacting initiatives.
- Engage effectively with clients, mana whenua, stakeholders, and the public, ensuring clear communication and collaboration.
- Work closely alongside transport specialists, urban designers, engineers, and environmental consultants to ensure integrated project outcomes.
- Contribute to the firm-wide knowledge sharing and upskilling efforts, particularly around resource management reforms.
Candidate Profile
- Holds a degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field, with full or progressing membership of NZPI (New Zealand Planning Institute).
- Brings 4+ years (Planner) or 7+ years (Senior Planner) of experience in environmental and urban planning.
- Possesses solid understanding of the Resource Management Act (RMA) with hands-on experience in statutory and strategic planning, including regional consents.
- Demonstrates a collaborative working style, prior experience mentoring or developing colleagues, and strong commercial acumen.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
- Consultancy experience is advantageous, particularly in water, transport, energy sectors or industrial and government clients.
