Senior Operations Manager - Ready-Mix Concrete

About the Role

Step into a pivotal operations leadership role as a Senior Area Operations Manager overseeing multi-site ready-mix concrete operations within a vast regional footprint based in Houston, TX. This position is full-time and onsite, with relocation support provided. The core focus is on delivering operational excellence, managing P&L responsibilities, prioritizing safety, driving continuous improvement, and cultivating high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct operations at about 18 ready-mix concrete plants dispersed over a 7,000-square-mile area.
• Ensure top operational performance by managing safety, production, quality, environmental compliance, and customer service standards.
• Take full accountability for regional P&L, including budgeting, forecasting, and setting operational strategies to meet financial objectives.
• Lead and guide Production, Dispatch, Fleet, and Plant Management teams comprising roughly 300 personnel.
• Initiate and implement continuous improvement projects aimed at boosting efficiency and productivity.
• Oversee fleet management to optimize equipment use, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as sales, quality, finance, and operations to align business goals.
• Develop leadership within teams through coaching, succession planning, and talent development activities.
• Present operational results, business strategies, and plans to executive stakeholders.
• Regularly visit multiple plant locations across Houston, providing active field leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in ready-mix concrete operations.
• At least 5 years’ leadership exposure managing multi-site operations with large teams.
• Proven P&L management expertise encompassing budgeting and strategy development.
• Strong experience in managing transportation and fleet operations.
• Track record advancing safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ability to exercise executive decision-making in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
• Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities.
• Willingness to travel frequently among plant sites across the region.

Preferred Skills and Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred.
• Experience leading broad regional ready-mix concrete operations.
• Technical or engineering operations background is advantageous.
• Proficiency in delivering presentations to senior leadership.
• Demonstrated history of developing future leaders and succession planning for senior roles.
