Role Overview
The role of Senior Manager, Business Development for the Americas involves spearheading the origination, evaluation, and progression of development and acquisition opportunities across wind, solar, storage, hybrid, and gas generation projects within the Americas region. This position collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including Energy Market Analysis, Energy Origination, Project Finance, Engineering, and regional development to expand Northland's project pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead identification, evaluation, and prioritization of new development, mergers & acquisitions, and partnership opportunities across Canada.
- Formulate regional market entry and growth strategies, leveraging market fundamentals, regulatory changes, and competitor insights.
- Establish and sustain external relationships with developers, landowners, partners, utilities, and corporate buyers to facilitate opportunity sourcing and advancement.
- Supervise creation of comprehensive business cases and detailed financial models for valuation, risk analysis, and scenario planning spanning diverse assets and markets.
- Convert financial and commercial data into actionable investment recommendations, guiding portfolio management and corporate strategies.
- Lead or oversee due diligence workflows involving technical, financial, legal, and commercial assessments, articulating associated risk-return implications.
- Manage negotiation processes related to development partnerships, land agreements, joint ventures, and acquisitions alongside business development leadership, legal, and finance teams.
- Prepare Investment Committee documentation, including memoranda, presentations, and contractual deals.
- Ensure coherent alignment among Development, Origination, Project Finance, and regional teams on commercial frameworks, market assumptions, and value drivers.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts to track project milestones, monitor budgets, and proactively escalate risks as necessary.
- Collaborate with Market Analysis and Energy Origination teams to interpret market fundamentals and offtake dynamics pertinent to each project.
Qualifications and Experience
- 3 to 5 years of business development experience within the power or renewable energy sectors, including gas generation.
- 5 to 10 years of cumulative experience in project development, corporate development or M&A, investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or renewable power sectors.
- Proficient understanding of valuation principles, risk assessment, and financial modeling; capable of overseeing model assumptions and outputs effectively.
- Demonstrated experience leading due diligence, negotiating commercial terms, and closing energy sector transactions.
- In-depth knowledge of either U.S. or Canadian energy markets.

Compensation
The salary range for this role is $139,200 to $174,000 annually.
