RTG Remote Controller - Operations

Job Overview

This role focuses on remotely operating Automated Electric RTG cranes (AeRTGs) from the RCOS control room to ensure safe, efficient, and precise container handling within the yard. It combines the responsibilities of technical oversight with direct intervention control to support automation efficiency, safety protocols, and yard productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Remotely operate AeRTGs to stack, retrieve, and reposition containers in designated yard zones.
• Oversee several automated cranes concurrently, stepping in to resolve any exceptions or unsafe scenarios promptly.
• Verify container movements for accuracy per Terminal Operating System (ZODIAC) directives.
• Collaborate with Yard Supervisors and Planning to optimize crane deployment and alleviate yard congestion.
• Report automation malfunctions, delays, or failures immediately to Maintenance or IT teams.
• Monitor yard safety utilizing camera systems and halt operations if unsafe conditions are detected in compliance with HSSE standards.
• Maintain detailed logs and performance data for RCOS operations to aid productivity analysis and troubleshooting.
• Contribute to ongoing automation performance enhancements by providing operational insights and feedback.

Qualifications and Skills

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, IT, Engineering, or related disciplines preferred.
• At least 1 to 2 years’ experience in container terminal operations, especially with automated equipment involvement.
• Knowledge of automated control systems, ZODIAC TOS, and remote crane technologies.
• Strong multitasking abilities and acute situational awareness.
• Skilled in diagnosing and resolving automation-related technical issues.
• Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively in team environments.
• Capacity to sustain focus and remain vigilant in a control room setting.
