About the Role

RBC Phillip Hager & North Investment Counsel, a premier Canadian Investment Counselling firm managing over $80 billion in assets, is seeking a Research Analyst to join its Head Office Investment Strategy team under the Chief Investment Strategist. This team oversees the firm's curated multi-asset product shelf, guides asset allocation, portfolio construction, and risk management frameworks, and provides educational resources and portfolio analyses supporting nearly 200 Investment Counsellors nationwide.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Chief Investment Strategist in due diligence, ongoing assessment, and monitoring of curated multi-asset investment products.
  • Research and evaluate pooled funds, SMAs, and ETFs for possible additions or removals from the product shelf.
  • Prepare both qualitative and quantitative due diligence documentation, performance reviews, and portfolio analyses.
  • Offer tailored and prompt support to Investment Counsellors on asset allocation, portfolio construction, and security selection.
  • Manage portfolio management inquiries, supporting scenario analyses for current and prospective clients.
  • Work closely with RBC GAM teams, third-party providers, Global Manager Research, WMC Alternatives teams, and internal partners to enhance product toolkits and competitiveness.
  • Create and maintain internal communications and client-friendly content.
  • Actively participate in monthly Investment Committee meetings.
  • Maintain frameworks communicating strategic and tactical asset allocation changes by RBC GAM.
  • Support training and educational initiatives for Investment Counsellors.
  • Update the Alts-tracker tool as required.
  • Leverage AI to automate team workflows, enhance productivity, and improve investment experiences and outcomes.
  • Engage in portfolio manager update calls by providing insights and sharing feedback with Investment Counsellors.
  • Collaborate with Senior Portfolio Engineer on oversight and monitoring of Product Fulfillment Models.
  • Ensure internal CounselNet materials are accurate and up to date.
  • Promote a collaborative working environment valuing teamwork, diverse perspectives, and mentorship critical to the team’s success.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Commerce, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
  • Over five years of experience in investment-related roles, especially portfolio construction, asset management, or macro-research.
  • CFA Charterholder or actively pursuing Level III of the CFA program.
  • A strong interest in financial markets and intellectual curiosity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills capable of simplifying complex concepts into clear, actionable advice.
  • Highly responsive and attentive to detail in stakeholder interactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Morningstar, and Bloomberg.

Preferred Skills

  • Fluency in French, both written and spoken.
  • Experience collaborating with investment advisors, counsellors, or portfolio managers.
  • Hands-on due diligence experience with mutual funds, SMAs, and ETFs.
