Role overview

The Office of Industrial Relations is looking for an experienced legal practitioner to join the Workers' Compensation Investigations and Prosecution Services team as a Prosecutor in Brisbane. This position focuses on prosecution work that supports the integrity of Queensland's workers' compensation framework and contributes to safer, fairer and healthier workplaces.

About the organisation

OIR delivers modern regulatory and government services for Queenslanders. Its broader purpose is to help Queensland workers, industry and communities thrive in environments that are healthy, safe, fair and productive.

Team focus

Workers' Compensation Investigations and Prosecution Services investigates and prosecutes offences under the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. The work can involve fraud, false or misleading statements, claim farming, not holding the required workers' compensation insurance, and improper use of workers' compensation documents.

What the role involves

In this role, you will deliver high-quality prosecution services for the Workers' Compensation Regulator. You will work alongside investigators and legal colleagues to progress matters through court and ensure prosecution decisions are well supported.

  • Review briefs of evidence and give legal advice.
  • Prepare matters for sentencing, hearings and trial.
  • Appear in court as prosecutor and instruct external counsel on more complex files.
  • Work with courts, investigators, defence lawyers, witnesses and other stakeholders.
  • Provide prompt advice on prosecution outcomes.
  • Help improve team processes and share knowledge with colleagues.

What you need to bring

The ideal candidate will be admitted, or eligible for admission, as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland. You should be able to assess evidence critically, apply legislation accurately, and turn that into practical legal advice. Strong courtroom advocacy, clear communication, careful drafting, stakeholder management and collaborative teamwork are also important.

Benefits and working environment

This position offers meaningful and varied prosecution work within the Queensland public sector. The role also comes with flexible work arrangements, opportunities for career development, a competitive salary with up to 12.75% employer superannuation, and access to health, wellbeing and employee assistance support. The workplace is described as supportive and inclusive.

This role may expose you to confronting or distressing material as part of investigations and prosecution work. OIR supports staff wellbeing through professional supervision, wellbeing initiatives and confidential Employee Assistance Program services. Application requirements

Applicants must submit a current resume that includes at least one referee who can comment on recent work performance. They must also provide answers to two application questions: one about their motivation for applying and fit for the role, and another about a time they analysed evidence, applied legislation, gave legal advice, carried out advocacy or managed litigation, including the approach, challenges and outcome.

Additional information

Applications remain current for 12 months. Job Ad Reference: QLD/694635/26. Closing date: Tuesday, 28 July 2026. Occupational group: Justice & Legal.
