Programme Assistant Driver - Supported Living Service

About the Role

We invite applications for a full-time, 39-hour weekly permanent Programme Assistant Driver position at the Irish Wheelchair Association's Supported Living Service in Kilkenny. The role involves safely transporting members to various locations, providing personal and activity support that promotes their independence, dignity, and self-esteem within the community. It requires collaboration with members, their advocates, service coordinators, support officers, colleagues, volunteers, families, and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Support individuals using a person-centered approach to help them achieve their potential.
• Assist members with personal care and daily activities as needed.
• Facilitate participation in social activities outside the home as identified by members.
• Support training in independent living skills tailored to each person.
• Act as a key worker and advocate for the members.
• Perform routine maintenance duties related to the residence.
• Ensure interactions promote and enhance members' independent living abilities.
• Work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, and overnight shifts.
• Implement action planning and reporting in line with the Service Coordinator's guidelines.
• Follow all health and safety standards rigorously, reporting incidents appropriately.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect members' privacy at all times.
• Comply with safety policies including health, fire safety, and safeguarding procedures for children and adults.
• Use clamping, hoisting, and lifting equipment as required.
• Undertake any additional duties as assigned.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience:

• Completion of at least five QQI Level 5 modules (Major Award) in Care Support or equivalent. Relevant awards include Community Health Services, Health Service Skills, or Health Care Support.
• Possession of a Category B Driving Licence is mandatory.
• Willingness to pursue a Category D Driving Licence in the future is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Previous experience working with people with disabilities is favorable.
• Understanding of the social model of disability and person-centered planning concepts is beneficial.
• Knowledge of independent living principles is desired.
• Strong communication abilities, including proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Computer literacy and administrative skills are advantageous.

Work Schedule

The role follows a rotating 4-week roster pattern:

• Week 1: Days or split shifts.
• Week 2: Two long shifts plus a weekend on.
• Week 3: Morning or evening shifts.
• Week 4: Night shifts, including waking or sleepover duties.

• Hourly salary ranging from €16.21 to €18.03 based on experience.
