Role Overview

GovTech seeks a strategic, mission-driven Lead or Senior Product Manager to head the AI Safety and Governance pillar within PlatformAI. The role involves scaling AI adoption across the public sector while ensuring AI applications are secure, equitable, and accountable by design.

The Product Manager will oversee a dual-track roadmap:

• Creating the "Safety Stack": a set of automated evaluation, guardrails, and red-teaming tools that empower development teams to deploy large language models confidently and quickly.
• Designing the "Governance Layer": observability and risk monitoring dashboards that provide a holistic view of AI compliance across the whole-of-government ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the Sovereign Safety Standard by setting long-term strategies for AI Safety-as-a-Service, shifting governance from manual checks to automated platform features.
• Integrate emerging international frameworks and local AI governance policies into platform features to make compliance seamless for developers.
• Establish AI risk levels for the government, setting safety benchmarks tailored for varying use cases such as citizen-facing applications versus internal productivity tools.
• Lead development of automatic evaluation engines to rigorously test products and models for vulnerabilities like prompt injection, personal data leakage, toxicity, and hallucinations before and after deployment.
• Collaborate with Engineering to embed safety verifications directly into CI/CD workflows, promoting a "Safety-by-Design" mindset that accelerates deployment.
• Create real-time monitoring systems to identify jailbreaking attempts and model performance drift, enabling fast response to live AI risks.
• Serve as a bridge between Policy/Legal and Engineering teams, ensuring that technical implementations align with policy and legal expectations.
• Foster a culture of safety by producing playbooks, standardizing red-teaming exercises, and educating teams about evolving LLM vulnerabilities.
• Define, measure, and track key performance indicators like Mean Time to Detect vulnerabilities, policy coverage percentage, and guardrail effectiveness.

Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive senior product leadership experience managing complex technical products, especially within Security, Governance, or AI/ML infrastructure domains.
• In-depth knowledge of AI safety concerns such as prompt injection attacks, training data poisoning, and algorithmic bias, along with familiarity with the current landscape of AI safety research.
• Strong skill in translating abstract ethical principles into precise technical requirements and APIs.
• Analytical expertise in data-centric evaluation methods like retrieval-augmented generation assessments, perplexity scoring, and model benchmarking to quantify performance and risks.
• Empathy for developer needs with a commitment to building safety tools that facilitate faster development rather than impose obstacles.
