Role overview
This position is based in a locally owned and operated store, where the focus is on delivering health, beauty, and convenience services while keeping the customer experience at the center of the pharmacy’s work.
The pharmacist is responsible for overseeing pharmacy operations during assigned hours, offering guidance to customers and health care providers, working to the full extent of professional scope, dispensing medications accurately, and supporting dispensary upkeep.
Pharmacy and customer service
- Greet and acknowledge every customer who comes to the pharmacy.
- Work in line with federal, provincial, regulatory, and legal obligations.
- Protect customer privacy and ensure confidentiality and proper consent handling.
- Counsel patients on prescriptions as well as over-the-counter and behind-the-counter products.
- Deliver professional services to the fullest scope allowed and within personal capability.
- Remain clearly identifiable to the public as the pharmacist on duty.
- Verify that every dispensed prescription is accurate and appropriate.
- Coordinate with other health care professionals within the circle of care to support patient care.
- Maintain all records required by law, practice standards, and company policy.
Workflow and inventory management
- Control access to the dispensary to protect inventory and patient privacy.
- Review workflow queues each day and keep them current.
- Check will-call bins regularly according to standard operating procedures.
- Monitor stock for expired items.
- Oversee stock levels and medication orders placed with wholesalers.
- Ensure all documentation and control requirements for substances regulated under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act are met, including reporting to Health Canada and other regulatory authorities.
Operations
- Keep entry and pickup stations, counselling and waiting areas, and work islands organized and presentable.
- Support financial reporting activities where needed.
- Review and act on store communications posted on the internal web system.
- Complete incident reports when customer or staff medication-related or privacy-related incidents occur.
Experience and qualifications
- Use independent judgment to make decisions when issues arise.
- Plan, coordinate, delegate, and coach pharmacy colleagues.
- Help grow the business, lead by example, and support enterprise programs.
- Be committed to outstanding customer service.
- Bring strong relationship-building skills and a professional approach.
- Apply effective problem-solving skills and turn plans into action.
- Use personal computing tools confidently and work with pharmacy systems; this is considered an asset.
- Follow all health and safety procedures to maintain a safe workplace.
- Complete required training and optional continuing education workshops as needed.
