About the Role

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a skilled Electrical Protection Control (PC) Lead Designer with 5 to 10 years of experience in substation design to join our team in Mumbai, India. Our Transmission Distribution division delivers comprehensive engineering solutions for power networks, including substations and grid modernization. The PC Design team is vital in ensuring the safety, monitoring, automation, and protection of electrical assets. This role involves producing detailed engineering designs for 11kV to 400kV substations with a focus on protection schemes and control systems for both greenfield and brownfield projects across domestic and global markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create PC engineering deliverables such as protection schematics, control and relay panel layouts, wiring and interconnection diagrams, AC/DC schematics, cable schedules, and comprehensive substation documentation.
  • Design transformer, feeder, and busbar protection drawings aligned with project needs.
  • Develop various control system drawings including bay control, relay panel, DC distribution, AC auxiliary, RTU/SCADA, LAN/Fiber network, and cable routing termination diagrams along with as-built documentation.
  • Maintain and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD and other CAD tools in line with project and client standards.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including Protection, Primary, Civil, and Telecom engineers to facilitate project execution.
  • Lead design reviews, implement drawing revisions, and oversee quality checks to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
  • Ensure compliance with CAD/BIM quality assurance protocols.
  • Mentor and guide junior designers, fostering a productive and motivated team environment.

Candidate Profile

  • Substantial experience designing 132kV to 400kV AIS/GIS substation protection control systems for both greenfield and brownfield developments.

  • Expertise in AutoCAD and Raster Design; knowledge of MicroStation, Revit, or similar is advantageous.
  • Sound understanding of IEC, IEEE, and utility-specific substation design standards, including familiarity with National Grid (UK) standards.
  • Proven ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Experience reviewing and checking PC drawings, ensuring technical accuracy and conformance with project requirements.
