Patient Transporter (Full Time and Part Time)

Position Summary

The Patient Transporter role involves the safe and timely internal transport of patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items within the hospital. This position requires attentiveness to patient needs, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication with healthcare staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely transport patients while securing IVs, drainage tubes, and other medical devices.
• Utilize approved equipment like wheelchairs for patient transport as needed.
• Demonstrate competence in handling patients of various age groups.
• Ensure accurate and prompt transfer of patients to designated locations with proper equipment.
• Maintain clear communication with nurses, clinicians, technicians, reception, and dispatch teams.
• Attend to patient comfort by offering blankets, respecting modesty, and engaging in appropriate conversation; avoid transporting patients experiencing severe pain.
• Immediately notify nursing staff about any patient distress or equipment malfunctions.
• Maintain transport equipment and report any repairs needed.
• Follow all regulatory standards including those from federal, state, and JCAHO authorities.
• Comply with hospital confidentiality and patient rights policies under HIPAA guidelines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience in customer service is mandatory.

Work Schedule and Location

Positions are available both full time and part time with variable days and hours. The role is based onsite at UAB St Vincents Birmingham, located at 810 St Vincents Drive, Birmingham, AL 35205.

Compensation

The pay rate is fixed at $14.00 per hour.
