About the Role
The Bridge for Kids is a passionate early childhood care center committed to supporting children affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. We focus on fostering a nurturing atmosphere that promotes development and healing for kids aged 6 weeks to 12 years who have experienced trauma and developmental delays. We invite a dedicated Part-Time Childcare Teacher to join our compassionate team and contribute meaningfully to this important mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Work 18 hours weekly with a flexible schedule, three days per week between 7:30am-1:30pm or 12:30pm-6:30pm, Monday through Friday.
- Provide trauma-informed, child-led educational experiences both indoors and outdoors, promoting physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth for children with developmental challenges.
- Develop and implement long-term learning plans tailored to children exposed to trauma.
- Complete daily documentation in compliance with agency standards and licensing requirements including NAEYC, DFPS, Bright Beginnings, and Collaborative for Children.
- Transport children safely to field trips and other child-related activities as necessary.
- Assist children with daily routines and age-appropriate life skills development.
- Maintain classroom sanitation and safety standards based on NAEYC guidelines through daily checklists and chores.
- Support the center’s Bright Beginnings Stellar Center status by embodying the Reggio Emilia pedagogical approach and meeting ongoing staff training requirements such as SIDS, Civil Rights, Child Abuse and Neglect, Mental Health, and Trauma education.
- Manage CACFP compliance involving meal counts, preparation, and serving.
- Ensure staff-to-child ratios meet all licensing and accreditation standards.
- Stay current on developmentally appropriate practices to benefit child care programming.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be 18 years or older as per Childcare Licensing rules.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred if applicable.
- Strong communication abilities with diverse populations including individuals with mental disabilities.
- Capable of preparing professional written reports with proper grammar.
- Skilled in independently managing crisis situations and executing action plans.
- Understanding of trauma’s impact and ability to provide attentive supervision and support to children.
- Effective classroom management and disciplinary skills that promote positive behavior.
- Proficient in team coordination and consistent instructional feedback.
- Exhibits professional boundaries and follows ethical guidelines in social work.
- Ability to facilitate age-appropriate support groups.
- Possess interpersonal empathy and interpret verbal and nonverbal cues.
Preferred Credentials
- High school diploma or GED is preferred.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is highly valued.
- Understanding of domestic/sexual violence dynamics and effects on children is beneficial but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of community and legal resources for survivors and relevant educational legislation is a plus.
Additional Requirements
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and clean driving record, with annual updates.
- Hold current auto liability insurance.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Physical ability to stand, bend, kneel, stretch, use stairs, and lift/carry up to 40 lbs in an emergency shelter environment.
Compensation and Working Conditions
- This part-time, non-exempt position offers an hourly wage of $16.67.
- Work involves flexible scheduling on-site three days per week within specified time ranges from Monday to Friday.
