Role Summary

The Platform as a Service (PaaS) Developer will join Sharesies' PaaS team, which plays a critical role in enhancing developer experience and enabling services by managing the tooling and infrastructure that supports rapid and secure business scaling. Building on established foundations, the team's current focus includes creating self-service infrastructure, integrating AI-assisted developer workflows, and developing scalable best practices that ensure performance, reliability, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will be part of a close-knit team of six engineers at various seniority levels and work collaboratively across the engineering department to design and develop internal platforms, guardrails, and tools aimed at reducing friction and accelerating delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Create and enhance internal platform tooling and services.
Design and implement self-service infrastructure to empower teams for faster delivery.
Incorporate observability, improve system performance, and uphold reliability within the platform.
Contribute to AI-driven workflows and operational enhancements.
Collaborate closely with engineering groups to promote adoption and alignment.
Influence the evolution of platform engineering practices within the company.

Location and Flexibility

While Wellington is the preferred location, candidates based in Auckland and those seeking flexible work setups will be considered. New hires should plan to spend initial time in Wellington to integrate deeply into the team and company culture.

Essential Skills and Experience

Proven experience in platform engineering roles.
Strong programming skills with experience developing internal tools.
Proficiency in database management and performance tuning, preferably PostgreSQL.
Experience maintaining containerized services in cloud environments.
Familiarity with observability and monitoring solutions such as Datadog.
Excellent communication skills, including mentoring colleagues and conducting code reviews.

Desirable Skills

Expertise in designing cloud platform architectures.
Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
Operational experience with CDNs such as Cloudflare.
General familiarity with AWS services (EC2, ECS, S3, ELB, RDS).
