Role overview

This contract role is based in Doha, Qatar and is centered on safe marine operations for export vessels passing through the Al Shaheen Field. Working under the Client HSE-SA/Representative, the Mooring Master helps ensure mooring and unmooring activities are completed safely, consistently, and in line with international requirements, Client standards, Al Shaheen Port Regulations, and other applicable Client procedures.

Key responsibilities

The position reports to the Company HSE-SA and requires a strong safety-first approach, including adherence to the Company’s 10 critical rules and all related CMS, terminal, maritime, statutory, OPITO, IMCA, and Client requirements.

  • Carry out any duties that fall within the contract scope as assigned by the Company HSE-SA and/or Company representative.
  • Keep JSAs and risk assessments current and accurate.
  • Conduct terminal asset inspections when requested and following terminal procedures.
  • Oversee the Common Marine Team’s work and performance, including compliance with the Company’s HSE expectations.
  • Support the introduction of FSO support boats to the field, including all export-related processes and procedures.
  • Follow all Company rules, terminal processes, applicable laws, maritime legislation, and OPITO/IMCA standards.
  • Lead the Common Marine Team on each FSO, which includes 2 Mooring Masters, 1 Mooring Master Assistant, 1 Lead Swimmer, 1 Mechanical Technician, 1 Swimmer, 2 terminal VTS operators, 1 Rigging Supervisor, 1 Rope Access Supervisor, 1 Rope Access Technician, and 1 Coxswain.
  • Ensure the team delivers export vessel pilotage, mooring and unmooring, export hose connection and disconnection, and level-one maintenance of SPM and mooring hawser, mooring fitting spares and the Mooring Masters toolbox, tandem hawser, and floating hoses.
  • Assist the HSE-SA/Representative with audits of chartered AHTs used for FSO operations.
  • Confirm that all Company procedures, policies, legislation, regulations, and Client SOPs are fully followed, and that completed work meets Client expectations.
  • Respond to emergency situations when asked, including events such as fire, explosion, or oil spill.
  • Support QHSE obligations by protecting personal and workplace safety, contributing to the improvement of the QHSE management system, helping develop and execute the HSE plan, and taking part in internal and external QHSE audits.

Working pattern

The schedule is 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, on a 4-weeks-on / 4-weeks-off rotation.

Certificates and qualifications

  • Valid IMO STCW 95 deck officer Class 1 certificate, unlimited.
  • Bridge Team Resource Management certification.
  • Qualification to serve on tankers, as applicable to gas or oil vessels (STCW V/1 §2).
  • Pilotage certificate or license issued by the relevant national competent authority.
  • Record of pilotage training and simulator training.

  • At least 36 months of mooring master experience, including tandem mooring on vessels above 150,000 DWT.
  • Working knowledge of the operating area, including navigational hazards, obstructions, and environmental conditions.
  • Familiarity with terminal tug operations.
  • Completed at least six berthing and unberthing operations, and at least three additional berthing/unberthing operations under the supervision of an experienced terminal pilot.
