Overview
Samaritan's Purse is actively seeking a Ministry Pilot to join the Mission Aviation Services team based in Entebbe, Uganda. This crucial role involves delivering vital air transportation across East Africa to support relief, ministry efforts, and outreach to isolated communities where ground transportation is often impractical. Utilizing various fixed-wing aircraft, the pilot will contribute directly to advancing spiritual and humanitarian missions.
Daily Role and Responsibilities
- Commit to personal spiritual growth and serve as an effective Christian witness.
- Conduct safe and efficient flight operations, including detailed flight planning, weather assessment, aircraft weight and balance calculations, and managing passenger, cargo, and baggage loading.
- Perform comprehensive pre-flight and post-flight aircraft inspections ensuring safety and mission readiness.
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of aircraft interior and exterior, including sanitation and keeping navigation charts and software updated.
- Assist with hangar and aircraft maintenance tasks, coordinating with relevant aviation authorities such as the FAA when required.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned to support the mission’s objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (2-4 years relevant experience or training).
- Have logged at least 2,500 total flight hours, including a minimum of 500 hours handling turboprop and/or turbojet aircraft.
- Hold an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with Single-Engine Land, Multi-Engine Land, and Instrument ratings.
- Maintain a valid FAA First-Class Medical Certificate.
- A FAA Airframe & Powerplant Certificate is preferred.
- Complete 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies; if not already completed, this can be fulfilled after hiring.
Additional Requirements
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
- Able to accompany family members during assignment.
- Willingness to travel approximately 35% of the time, including trips up to 30 days, especially during humanitarian crises. Necessary travel documentation and vaccinations required.
