Job description
Join MBIE as an Employment Mediator
If you are passionate about helping individuals find mutual understanding and resolving workplace disputes, this role might be perfect for you. As a Mediator at MBIE, you will facilitate employment dispute resolutions under the Employment Relations Act, aiding parties in productive conversations that foster clarity, empathy, and agreement. Your interventions may be conducted in person, by phone, or online, engaging with employees, employers, unions, advocates, and representatives.
This permanent full-time position offers the chance to work in Auckland, Hamilton, or Wellington, with a salary range of $96,453 to $121,196 plus KiwiSaver and wellness benefits, contributing to your well-being.
Role Responsibilities
- Facilitate understanding and resolution among parties involved in employment disputes including individual conflicts and collective bargaining.
- Apply mediation and other dispute resolution techniques to complex employment disagreements.
- Engage impartially and calmly in high-conflict situations to foster trust and open dialogue.
- Manage a diverse caseload and maintain organized documentation while adapting to a dynamic work environment.
- Travel across New Zealand as necessary to support dispute resolution processes.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proficient knowledge of employment legislation and employment relations practices in New Zealand.
- Mediation accreditation or equivalent experience in dispute resolution methods.
- Experience with collective bargaining or industrial relations is advantageous.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and active listening, staying impartial while addressing various perspectives.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.
- Legal authorization to live and work in New Zealand.
