Role Overview
The Media Planner will manage daily media planning tasks across multiple channels, developing strategic media plans and effectively communicating the overall campaign narrative. This role requires resourcefulness, strong organization, and energetic involvement throughout the planning stages, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates should be comfortable handling multiple projects in a fast-paced setting.
This position requires proximity to New York City and offers a hybrid work model combining onsite and remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and expand knowledge across online and offline media channels.
- Collaborate with Investment, Analytics (Redbox), and Strategy teams to integrate audience insights into strategic recommendations.
- Lead weekly status meetings and serve as the primary client liaison.
- Manage client budgets and update flowcharts to ensure accurate, comprehensive media plans.
- Stay abreast of evolving media and client trends.
- Partner with the Investment team to develop clear tactical presentations aligned with strategic objectives.
- Master and rigorously utilize tools such as Vivvix/Pathmatics, YouGov, MRI/Simmons, Infegy, Commspoint, RBOO, and NMI.
- Review and supervise the work produced by Assistant Planners to maintain quality standards.
- Demonstrate deep understanding of quantitative media strategy components including media mix, channel roles, reach and frequency, and flighting strategies.
- Fully comprehend client business goals and media's role in meeting them.
- Promote media and creative integration through cross-agency collaborations and planning.
- Develop comprehensive, strategic media plans with input from Supervisors and Directors.
- Analyze target audience behaviors in cooperation with the Investment team to create actionable segments.
- Scrutinize tactical plan details to ensure alignment with strategic intent.
- Understand and evaluate media metrics beyond basic reach, including quality and effectiveness.
- Encourage innovative, out-of-the-box thinking in media planning.
- Create strategic media point-of-views tailored to client needs.
- Engage in ongoing training and mentorship, providing guidance to junior team members.
- Demonstrate motivation, professionalism, and contribute positively to team culture.
- Troubleshoot issues, foster open communication, and build team spirit.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in media planning within an advertising agency.
- Proven ability to manage multiple client projects and deadlines effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Solid analytical and mathematical capabilities.
- Capable of independently handling projects from inception to completion.
- Experience in mentoring junior staff and managing team workloads.
- Initiative to acquire new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
- Professional demeanor with clients, vendors, and colleagues.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $63,000 to $75,000 annually, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Primarily desk-based work involving prolonged computer use, requiring the ability to remain seated for at least 50% of the time.
- Capability to stand, bend, and reach as needed throughout the workday.
- Use of office equipment including calculators, copiers, and printers.
- Effective communication skills for exchanging accurate information clearly.
- Ability to focus on details at close range.
