Job Overview

The HEINEKEN Company is searching for a skilled and committed Local Sourcing Development Manager to join their team in Kigali, Rwanda. Reporting directly to the Supply Chain Director, this role focuses on advancing BRALIRWA’s agenda to increase local raw material sourcing to 60% by 2030, supporting sustainable growth and cost-efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate a comprehensive long-term local raw material plan to meet BRALIRWA's sustainability goals and growth projections.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments and external stakeholders, including agricultural extension services, to uphold business interests and sustainable sourcing.
  • Develop and regularly update frameworks and strategies for sustainable and cost-efficient local raw material procurement and share progress with top management.
  • Create and implement a local content inclusion strategy within product recipes while monitoring advancements toward local sourcing targets.
  • Work closely with internal and external partners to optimize product recipes, including cost-saving modeling and conducting brewing trials for approval.
  • Update and maintain raw material processing standards aligning with global supply chain requirements and oversee barley seed production programs for local and foreign varieties.
  • Support barley farmers and raw material processors by ensuring compliance with quality standards, fostering safety, conducting farm audits, and supervising service providers.
  • Conduct audits and provide problem-solving assistance to raw material suppliers and explore new sourcing opportunities regionally and internationally.
  • Manage relationships with development partners and agriculture stakeholders to further Heineken’s sustainability objectives and align with import/regional policies.
  • Identify and execute cost-saving initiatives related to raw material handling, packaging materials, and distribution processes.
  • Drive localization of packaging materials by identifying new supplier opportunities and supporting investor development to enhance supply chains.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required in business development, business administration, agriculture, international development, or related disciplines; a master’s degree is advantageous.
  • At least five years of experience, ideally involving complex agricultural value chains linking agriculture and industry.
  • Strong project and program management skills with demonstrated ability to handle complex stakeholder interactions.
  • Excellent networking capabilities at executive business and governmental levels.
  • Proficient in English and Kinyarwanda, with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility for both national and international travel.
  • Experience in farmer capacity-building, analytical and quantitative proficiency, and adeptness with IT tools.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire diverse teams and work independently or collaboratively.
  • High levels of personal responsibility alongside cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
